Anyone excited about Thanksgiving? 🦃

It’s a favorite holiday because it’s centered around time with friends, family, and food! Have you ever had a thanksgiving gathering where you ran out of food?  Most of the time there is so much food that it is physically impossible to eat it all.

God’s word/truth/revelation is like that. There is no way to consume it all in one setting. Jesus even told the disciples that there was so much more to tell them but that they couldn’t bear it. But he was going to send the Holy Spirit (John 16).  God has so much for us, but he wants us to pursue it.

Hunger, thirst, and breathing are the three strongest impulses in the natural realm.  Most of us have never felt what it’s like to be deprived of any of these basic needs.  Together, we will walk through this one small verse and stir up a hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Key Passages: Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

His Kingdom & Blessings are Here & Now

Jesus said, “I come to give you life abundantly”.  He taught us to pray thy kingdom come on earth as in heaven. And he’s talking about life here in this life is right here on Earth, as we live here, we can live in abundance under His blessing.

BLESSED -makários (mak-ar’-ee-os) (properly) when God extends His benefits (the advantages He confers); blessed. To Make Blessed.

God extends his benefits and blessings that we can operate in here on Earth. It is to have the goodness of God in every area of your life.  These advantages are available to those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.

God has major benefits lined up for us. Benefits fit for a King because we are children of the King.

Q:  Think about your life.  Write down all the blessings and benefits that you can think of that have been in your life or are happening now.

Kingdom living pursues Righteousness = Relationship

RIGHTEOUSNESS – díkaios (dik’-ah-yos) describes what is in conformity to God’s own being (His will, standard of rightness); hence “upright.”

Righteousness in NOT Religious…

  1. Rules/regulations = Religion
  2. To become righteous apart from Christ is impossible
  3. People won’t serve God because they can’t do it
  4. People give up because it’s too hard

Matthew 5:20 states, “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!”

The flip side equally as religious is Hyper Grace

  1. Not interested in relationship – just want the reward
  2. Religion looks for a formula to God = religion

God desires relationship and relationship doesn’t just happen, it takes WORK!  We must get to a place where there is nothing that can stop us from pursuing God. Only He can bring refreshing and true satisfaction.

Q:  Relationships are built by connection.  In what ways do you feel connected to God?  How can you build upon those connections for a deeper relationship with Him?

Relationship = Righteousness = Filled

God is saying that a relationship with him aligns you with His will and provides ultimate satisfaction.

FILLED – chortazó (khor-tad’-zo) to feed, fatten, fill, satisfy

If we are naturally hungry, we typically feed our physical bodies 3x per day.  How often do we feed our spiritual selves?  What if we only fed ourselves physically after we fed ourselves spiritually?  Some of us might be in bad condition because the spiritual meal only takes place at church on Sundays.

Sundays are appetizers not full meals; it is not possible for you to get a weeks’ worth of nourishment in 1 hour.  The more I seek Him, the more there is to find which takes me further into His truth. And as a result I live in a state which cannot be rattled, I may be pressed but not crushed, persecuted, but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed. I find Joy – TRUE JOY in His presence. The Joy of the Lord gives me strength, comfort, and satisfaction.

Q:  How hungry are you?  Are you experiencing the blessing of God in your life?  Do you deeply desire a closer relationship with the Father? Are you able to stand in this life and not be shaken by circumstances because you know the King?  What steps can you take to spend more time eating at His table?
